St Malo
You
can join us for a week-end or a week as an individual or as a group. We will
show you some of the finest cruising areas in Europe, and teach you as much or
as little as you want.
During
the summer, Northern Child
will be based out of the Hamble River so that you can explore the beautiful
waters of the South Coast of England, or venture slightly further afield and
cruise the picturesque Channel Islands, or the rock-protected coast of Northern
France and the charm of the little fishing ports of North or South Brittany.
Below
are two examples of what we can propose you for a weekend or longer:
1. Dyson weekend
|

|
The
7 Dyson crew joined Northern Child in the Hamble in a rainy and windy
Friday evening. On Saturday we went through the basics of sailing the boat
and did lots of sail changes, lots of tacking, gybing, put reefs in, took
reefs out, etc... Not always very relaxing, but great fun.
We spent Saturday evening in Cowes,
where the crew was happy to accomplish their mission for the evening and
got very drunk...
On Sunday, we decided to sail around
the Isle of Wight. Nice passage from East to West, although gybing against
the tide at the entrance to the Solent were quite exhausting. We also put
a spinnaker up, as it is always a very sensational experience. We arrived
back in the Hamble in the early evening.

2. French cruising weekend
|
For the last weekend of May, we put a French crew
together to cruise around North Brittany and the Channel Islands. Richard,
who we had met a month before in the Hamble also joined us from England
and throughout the whole journey.
The journey down from the Hamble to St Malo, where we
picked up the French crew, took us 2 days with a night stopover in
Alderney.
During the 4 day weekend, the 10 of us chose to visit
St Malo and St Quay in Brittany, Granville and Iles Chausey in Normandy,
Sark and Guernsey in the Channel Islands. The weather was wonderful and
the sailing was very enjoyable until the wind completely died and we had to
motor the last 2 days for much longer than we would have liked. Still it
was a very nice source of fresh air for all our guests, who all created a
very nice atmosphere on board.
The voyage back took us 2 days as we decided to stop in
Cherbourg because of a very dense fog. Jenny, who we met during the
Atlantic crossing last year, also joined us for the leg between St Malo
and Cherbourg. The weekend ended with a beautiful sail with the cruising
chute set in the Solent. |
