First sailed in 1931, the Round the Island race now gathers almost 2,000 yachts from Maxi-yachts to the smallest offshore categories and from speedy multihulls to sedate all –timers. Yachts still compete for the Gold Roman Bowl, the legendary trophy presented by the race’s founder Cyril Windeler. 

The Round the Island Race is one of the world's biggest yacht races with a 50 nautical mile course anti-clockwise around the isle of Wight, westwards from Cowes. The starting signal will be made from the Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes.


Round the Island race itinerary

The 2008 edition will be the 72th  Round the Island race and Northern Child’s 7th participation in the race. Northern Child takes part in the most renowned regattas in the UK, Mediterranean and Caribbean , where she always proves to be very fast and very competitive.
