Northern Child came 3rd in class and received the prize for the highest placed Charter Yacht In 2009 |
Antigua Sailing Week (24th April to 1st May 2010) is the major regatta of the Caribbean season and one of the top five regattas in the world. Antigua Sailing Week justifiably has the reputation of being the hardest sailing/socializing regatta of the season. Winds can be higher than for the other regattas and a lot of the racing takes place on the ocean side of the Island with fairly large seas. The Regatta Week consists of 2 days training and 6 days racing.
|
After a first day racing on the South coast of Antigua, the fleet will race around the West Side of the Island finishing in Dickenson Bay; in the evening there is an immense party set up on the beach in a brilliant setting, finishing in the early hours of the morning. The next day is spent racing back to Nelson’s dockyard mostly in protected waters in the lee of the Island , followed by a race around the buoys on the South coast on the Tuesday. The last two days of the regatta are spent racing to Jolly Harbour and back to Nelson’s dockyard. |
Northern Child is superbly equipped for racing and is maintained to the very highest standard. Northern Child has participated in Antigua Sailing Week for the last 7 years and her latest Caribbean racing results include a first in class at the BVI Sailing Festival 2008, a 3rd in class and the prize for the highest placed Swan yacht in her division in Antigua Sailing Week 2008 |
When racing with individuals on board, our objective is to provide each guest with a great time racing in the Caribbean . The two professional crew will train the crew to ensure that the racing is safe, fun and that each crew member is able to make a valuable contribution to the team effort. Although prior race or sailing experience is preferred, it is not essential. The 2 training days represent a great opportunity for each crew member to get familiar with the yacht and the racing manoeuvres. |
The 2010 regatta will be opened to a group of sailors or individuals wishing to experience the thrilling experience of big boat racing.
